Discussion:
multi user / concurrent VNC sessions on Windows?

On Linux, or *NIX in general, it is possible to have multiple and
concurrent VNC sessions
That is, many users, with different passwords can use one machine
remotely at the same time, and each user will have a different desktop /
program run etc.

Is it also possible on Windows?

The only possibility I know is MS Terminal Server or RDP on Windows in
general - but here one have to pay for each client that connects to a
server.

Is this multiuser on Windows also supported by VNC (TightVNC, or any
other VNC)?

Or is it generally impossible with VNC and Windows?

If it's impossible, are there any alternatives to MS Termina Server / RDP?

On *nix in general, it is supposed to be possible. I have never done it as
I'm pretty much the ONLY user on my box. :-) What you have to do is start
the VNC server at boot, I believe and have it call the login manager.

As for Windows, AFAIK, it is not possible to use any flavor of VNC to
connect multiple users to separate "sessions" as it is on *nix. There are
other pieces of software that will let you do this, besides the ones you
mentioned, but they have the same problem you are complaining about with the
per-client licensing.

When you say there are other pieces of software that do that..
are you talking of Terminal sever on windows or is there
something else you know of..

I've never used it myself, but I think things like Citrix and as you point
out, Terminal Server will do that. Again, though, those have a per-user
license.
