Hi to all!

I'm a newbe in the subject, and I'm having some problems with Tunneling
Tight-VNC over ssh using PuTTY. So I will describe my situation:

In my Office I've 10 pc (win98se) connected to a private network.

Ex.: IP-PC1 = 192.168.0.1
IP-PC2 = 192.168.0.2 ...

I have an ADSL connection to the Internet and one modem and a router connected
directly to a HUB. My IP is dynamic.

So if from my home I whant to connect with a machine that have a Internal IP =
192.168.0.3, using tightvnc, the connection will fail.

I read the Benjamin J. Weiss "Tunneling Tight-VNC over ssh using PuTTY"
tutorial, and try to do exactly like, but with no success. I've try this
settings:

SESSION:
- HOST NAME( OR IP ADDRESS): 200.XXX.XX.XXX
(This is the IP Address in my Office. Since I have dynamic IP, I find
the real ip in www.whatismyip.com )
- PROTOCOL: SSH

TUNNELS:
- SOURCE PORT: 5900
- DESTINATION: 192.168.0.3:5900
- LOCAL RADIO BUTTON: SELECTED!

Ok that is it! When I press Open, I got a Black terninal and no error.
And now, open TyghtVNC viewer and type 127.0.0.1:5900, and then, no
connection! I got an error message.

I use tightvnc through putty tunnel all the time, I have to say it works great.

try this

pc 1 @ work with tightvnc 192.169.0.1
pc 2 @ work with tightvnc 192.168.0.2

--- firewall/unix/linux - with sshd running, ip address 200.x.x.x

your pc at home

First, lets configure the putty to use ssh protocol and configure the tunnel to your office, so start the putty and follow below steps
1 - host name (or ip address) of your firewall, in your case 200.x.x.x
2.- protocol, select ssh
3 - save this session - as office-tunnel
4 - select SSH under the category
5 - I always select (protocol options) - preferred SSH 2, (it's up to you)
6 - select Tunnels under the category
7 - first, under the port forwarding, check both Local and Remote ports
8 - in the source port for the first pc, enter 5901
9 - in the destination, enter 192.168.0.1:5900
10 - make sure the "Local" is selected at bottom, then click "Add" button

For pc 2 and others repeat steps 8 - 10

8 - in the source port for the first pc, enter 5902
9 - in the destination, enter 192.168.0.2:5900
10 - make sure the "Local" is selected at bottom, then click "Add" button

Repeat above three steps for another pc's

Don't forget to save your configuration by - selecting session under the category and click "SAVE"

Now to connect

1 - start putty, load office-tunnel, open session and log in to your firewall
2 - start tightvnc, for the VNC server, type your home pc's ip address followed by the vnc port number. For example, if your pc at home has an ip address of 10.1.1.20, then in the VNC server window type in 10.1.1.20:1 to connect to pc1, type 10.1.1.20:2 connect to pc 2...etc

hope this helps.

You should get "login as:"
where you need to type the username on the remote machine...
followed by "password"...

After successfull login you should see the computer prompt
on the remote machine...

You can confirm the successfull setup of the "putty" tunnels by
right mouse clicking the title bar of the putty window, and selecting
"event log", from the context menu that appears...

In the event log you should see aline like follows for each tunnel
defined:
"Local port 5901 forwarding to 192.168.0.3:5900"

hope this helps
